'It's about the source not the provision'

Jonathan currently lives in China with his wife, Cathy and their 3 sons. As well as learning Chinese he exhibits his work world-wide with recent exhibitions in Shanghai & Kunming, in China, Seoul and London. He is also an Associate Lecturer at the University of the Arts, London and Gallery Director and Curator for TCG Nordica gallery in Kunming, China. He completed his Masters Degree at the University of the Arts, London and is now preparing further research possibilities with a particular interest in connections between his own practice and Chinese traditional painting, calligraphy and contemporary art.

Jonathan has recently exhibited in London, Beijing, Seoul and Shanghai. His work has been seen at the ICA London(Institute of Contemporary Arts), London Art Fair, 798 factory district Beijing and the Shanghai Biennial (as part of a Liverpool Biennial exhibition at the Shanghai Biennial). In September 2006 some of his work was selected for Bonhams Exhibit 06, a survey of contemporary British art.

Jonathan has also curated many exhibitions of Chinese contemporary art and lectures at universities across China, including the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.

Jonathan was born and grew up in Liverpool, UK. He studied art in Liverpool, Northampton and London and is now an Associate Lecturer on the post graduate art programme at the University of the Arts, London.

From 2000 to 2006 he has been co-director with a team of artists, of the innovative artist run House Gallery, a 'grass-roots arts initiative, providing an independent platform where new and established artists can respond to contemporary stimuli in a public space'.

In 2001 Jonathan curated an exhibition of work by Sir Terry Frost 'regarded as one of Britain’s greatest abstract painters' Tate Magazine.

From 2001 to 2002 he was director of Camberwell Artsweek, a large visual arts festival held each year in South East London. For this festival he organised and curated several exhibitions including a show called 'Impress' which combined print based work from Peter Blake, Tracey Emin, David Hockney, Sean Scully and Gavin Turk with relatively unknown print makers.

Jonathan has been involved in many community based art projects from short art workshops to a year long school based project.

In November 2004, just 3 months after moving to China, Jonathan completed the design for a new restaurant in the city of Kunming, Yunnan Province. The design included a dramatic green ceiling and a selection of real trees which rise above the dinners. Jonathan also created 8 very large new pieces to be on permanent display in the restaurant.
